I decided to leave education, for now.

It is the first day of back to school for educators.

We all have read and talked about the educator shortage but what really is not talked about it is the conditions we are put on. During the pandemic we all heard other educators leaving education and doing a career change.

After working during the pandemic, I took the school year 2021-2022 off and started traveling abroad because the chaotic ways the schools were run and the working conditions I was placed. I can guarantee most of us had to deal with such so I would not go into details.

Should I go back?

When I came back to the U.S., I worked during the 2022 summer term at a university, and this made me realize that it is not that I’m done with working in education but the working environment at NYC schools.

I thought of trying to work abroad in education and received job offers but something was restraining me to buy that plane ticket.

Lets switch it up!

After much thought, I decided to work remotely in another field and take some time off from education. I’m not saying I’m done with teaching as I have been doing it for the past 10 years and I do love it, but I need to think of my mental health first and the working conditions are not ideal for me right now.

I understand this change is not accessible to everyone as we all have different responsibilities that would prevent us to do a change like this, but I was in a position that I was capable to do so with the opportunity given.

I’m not saying that I’m fully done with working in education but I’m seeing what another career path there are for me.
